2011-2012 AMERICAN ARTS
CLASS CALENDAR
Monday's Artist Class Description
ART MASTERS DRAWING AND WATERCOLOR
Both drawing and watercolor will highlight several great American artists, as well their works and basic appreciation for said works. The focus of the art classes will be 'seeing' the subject matter they are to sketch line by line and shape by shape in order to form their own unique drawing technique.
CHORUS
The Sound of Music has the most wonderful songs to bring out the beauty and sweet notes in children's voices!! I believe that evokes pictures of fun and joyful memories in each of us. This years chorus program will pass this on to your children.
PUBLIC SPEAKING I and II
With the goal of raising Godly children who can communicate well, enunciate clearly and defend their faith and ideas successfully in order to become thinkers of today and leaders of tomorrow. Our class focus will be on the basic components of public speaking (for all ages), how to create and research a presentation topic (for older students), being an attentive and polite listener as well as a practiced and comfortable speaker. There will be many non-threatening (and, dare I say it,?) fun opportunities for the children to practice their skills, including etiquette and manners, study the various types of speeches and create their own style of delivery. Orators will be divided according to age.
DRAMA
In Puppet Theatre students will learn to create original scripts, simple stages and the fun of creating hand puppets as well as the details and creativity involved in putting on these performances.
SIX WEEK COURSES
PUBLIC SPEAKING FOR TEENS
All leaders have one things in common. They are practiced and polished public speakers! This six week course will be a great mini-arena in which to learn the basics of oration from how to decide upon a topic to researching, practicing and presenting it. If time permits we will study media ecology and logic so as to create insightful critics towards all of subtle messages the world sends our ways.>
JEWELRY MAKING
In the Art of Costume Jewelry class students will make jewelry from beads, paper, plastic and other suprise materials. These will be pieces you will want to wear created over six weeks of hands on fun. *Materials fee of $10 per student.
FILM PHOTOGRAPHY
Students will learn photography old school by using traditional cameras (disposable). They will acquire the gift of looking for and seeing God's wonders before them as well as how to create a scene in order to capture it's artistic beauty on film. These works of art will be developed in black and white although colored film will be used in order to add more depth and richness to each photo. *Parents will be responsible for purchasing six disposable cameras at around $3 each (we will put in a group order to save on shipping) as well as the cost of processing their child's film.

Students will learn the alphabet and everyday expressions such as 'please', 'thank you' and many more niceties that you can use when wanting to communicate in public. The will also be able to tell a simple story.
CRITTERS AND HABITATS
Students will study various indigenous reptiles, insects and amphibians, observing and discussing their natural tendencies and needs for survival. As a group we will create one eco-system habitat that will suitable to house any and all of God's creatures we have studied.
LATIN WORD ROOTS
The basics of the Latin language will be explored through defining Latin root words, prefixes and suffixes in combination with games and activities to mix these up to create new words, thus creating a lifelong ability to understand the basics of most languages and subjects through taking the words apart piece by piece. The study of Latin reduces the need to study in other subjects by roughly 50%!
NATURE JOURNAL
"If we give our children regular opportunities to get in touch with God's creation, a habit is formed that will be a source of delight throughout their lives." - Karen Andreola, A Charlotte Mason Companion. A Springtime class, of course, where students will be introduced to the joy of detailed outdoor treasure explorations. This Charlotte Mason style class will introduce journalling as well as gathering and creating beauty from nature.
